I sometimes photograph art and nicknacks for Mark. I don't enjoy taking these photos as much as candids. With a candid I capture some emotion-- something special that I want to remember. The art photos, while attractive, don't do that for me. A candid captures a moment I may never see again. Photos of art capture beauty that is better perceived by actually looking at the art. Posted by Picasa

Mount Rainier at Reflection Lake , originally uploaded by HJRook . I'm going through my old digital photos. I took this in about July of 2001. Most of my old digital photos are just snaps with mediorcre framing, a boring subject or poorly lit. It took me a long time to learn how to work with the blues, grays and greens that are everywhere in Washington State. This is the first photo that I took and that I loved. I toyed with cropping out the rocks in the lower left. I left them in because it makes the photo more real. Anyone looking at this photo, could go to reflection lake and find the exact spot where I took this picture. And, if the wind and light were right, they could take one of their own.
