The new lens gives me greater control over the depth of field, so I can focus on one object, and blur everything in the background. It takes some practice, but it's helping me control the "background is too busy" problem
Mount Rainier at Reflection Lake
Mount Rainier at Reflection Lake , originally uploaded by HJRook . I'm going through my old digital photos. I took this in about July of 2001. Most of my old digital photos are just snaps with mediorcre framing, a boring subject or poorly lit. It took me a long time to learn how to work with the blues, grays and greens that are everywhere in Washington State. This is the first photo that I took and that I loved. I toyed with cropping out the rocks in the lower left. I left them in because it makes the photo more real. Anyone looking at this photo, could go to reflection lake and find the exact spot where I took this picture. And, if the wind and light were right, they could take one of their own.
